Research paper on nutrient retention and carbon sequestration

Summary
This deliverable will articulate the scientific evidence base for D3.1. The research paper will present a conceptual model relating carbon intensity to nutrient loading based on existing data from OSPAR, HELCOM, national monitoring databases, and earlier project databases to quantify the risk of “pollutant swapping” where attempts to control eutrophication lead to result in undesirable GHG emissions. The research paper will be submitted to an open-source journal during the month the deliverable is due and will thus be available to researchers, stakeholders, decision makers, and other end users once it has been peer-reviewed and published.
